(INCHE/RIESC) Tenth Latin American Conference (Virtual)

The International Network for Christian Higher Education (INCHE/RIESC)-Latin America, in collaboration with Q’onakuy, is planning its Tenth Latin American Consultation which will be held virtually on July 31, 2026. The general theme is “Cosmic Awareness and Historical Commitment: Dialogues between Science and Faith in the Current Global ‘[Dis] order.”

An appropriate understanding of reality is necessary for consistent active faith. The theme of this consultation proposes the necessity of a spirituality embodied in the physical and social reality of the world, studied and understood through science, while acknowledging where this knowledge falls short in terms of an active ethical commitment to improving the global human condition.

The current context in which we live can be described as one of global ‘disorder,’ of multiple crises: the manifest effects of climate change but its ideological denial; great geopolitical instability, coupled with economic and military warmongering and manipulation of religious discourse; accelerated technological and digital advancement without appropriate regulation; concentration of the social product of labor in few hands, inequality, poverty, and mass migrations; and more.

Dialogue between science and faith becomes relevant when it overcomes the supposed dichotomy between the two by refining and purifying their respective fields: science helping to liberate religion from superstition and prejudice, while faith helping to free science from technological idolatry or scientism. A genuine commitment to Truth is needed, one that transcends typical historical conflicts and ideological drift, and focuses on cooperation to improve human life.

Thus, the objectives set for the consultation are:

[1] To stimulate dialogue between science and faith in its broadest dimension, focusing on the historical commitment to the integral improvement of human life: physical, social, and spiritual.

[2] To raise awareness of the commitment of Christian higher education to confront and present alternatives  to problems posed by the regional situation and the current world [dis] order.

[3] RIESC-Q’onakuy cooperation in service to Christian higher education in Latin America.
