Christian Witness in a COVID-Shaped World

Christian Witness in a COVID-Shaped World:

Teaching Students Worldwide

An INCHE 2020 Professional Development Opportunity

INCHE invites its members to participate in a June, July, or August 2020 mini-course, IDIS 170, “Christian Witness in a COVID-Shaped World” supplemented with three online discussions exclusive to INCHE members. Our network has received a special-purpose grant that allows members to participate for a modest co-pay. Depending on economic capacity in your region, financial aid may reduce visitor fees to less than $50 USD and no more than $200 USD.

Coronavirus-SARS-CoV-2 has disrupted Christian higher education worldwide. Not one of us is immune to COVID-19 effects on our students, institutions, and societies. As Christians we must learn to address this together. To date there has been little time to reflect on the meaning and implications of this abrupt and systemic change in global life. How do we educate for Christian witness now and in the future?

We can learn together

From late May through mid-August 2020, INCHE members are invited by Calvin University and Calvin Theological Seminary to select a section in the special mini-course: IDIS 170, Christian Witness in a COVID-Shaped World. The course is designed to provide students of all ages an opportunity to reflect on the meaning and implications of this global phenomenon for our Christian lives.

Each course section is:

  • Online and asynchronous.

  • Limited to three weeks of time.

  • Flexible with varied starting dates on June 1, later June, and later July.

  • Focused on a topical area such as church, health, citizenship, family, or youth.

  • Available in English with three Spanish-language options.

  • Supplemented by online small group discussions unique to INCHE participants.

How will INCHE add value?

As value added, INCHE online discussions, one per week, are designed to explore educational tools for Christian teaching and learning in multiple cultural contexts. Three Zoom-based online discussions will:

  • Connect Christian higher education leaders for mutual support.

  • Discuss curricula and instruction for a COVID-shaped future.

  • Identify resources from multiple world regions that address future Christian witness.

Each INCHE participant who completes a mini-course and the small-group discussions will receive a certificate of recognition.

Who can benefit?

Any INCHE participant with an institutional, affiliate, or individual membership in good standing.
